The Digital Transformation of Africa 4 a Digitally Inclusive Economy

Digital Education and Technology Resource Center (DETERC)

Digital Education and Technology Resource Center (DETERC)  is an ICT Center that employs innovative approaches in fostering Capacity building, Professional Development, entrepreneurship, research and information sharing. This project seeks to design training packages, educative videos/documentaries and digital tour guide, as well as offer services in the Information and digital technology industries to the general public using advanced data processing and information dissemination tools to reach out to closer and distant beneficiaries.

Why  this project needed and the problem  it expected to solve

In spite of advancement in Information and Communication Technologies in the world today, ICT is still being regarded as a non-mandatory career option, as young people underestimate its credentials of social and economical accreditation through job creation and employment in general, as it is the case in other developed countries. This is so because IT training is generally lacking its professional background as private IT enterprises and training centres fail to carry out career orientations due to limited context driven training programs. This however has limited them at general computer awareness programs, making careers such as Systems Administrator, Software, Hardware and Network Engineers etc, to be silent in the IT industry.

However, trainees, students and other interested persons in IT and research in general  lack training tools, tutorials and information  to build their  capacities and expatiate on their knowledge in IT and the knowledge of their environment in which an information repository containing such resources, training tools and tutorials could give them access to build their capacities on their own.

I-GLOBE conducted primary analysis on the integration of IT as a tool for poverty alleviation through job creation and realized that so many entities such as internet communication centers and documentation canters are noted for using worn out and outdated equipment that slows down management and coupled with the low connectivity that frustrates the efforts of the end user, the growth and expansion of such businesses is always very difficult.

Foster the development of IT Entrepreneurship through mobilization, professionalism, resource/ information sharing, Capacity building and networking as a line of approach that empower disadvantaged youths to retain complementarities of skills and intellectual resources necessary to foster the development of IT industry in Cameroon, whilst reaping from the rewards and benefits of this development brought about through  job creation, self-esteem, youth and economic empowerment for sustainable development.
